Strength Training for Boxers

“Boxers shouldn’t lift heavy weights” … Myth

  • Power = Force x Velocity
And nothing trains you to develop higher levels of force than quality strength work.

  • Strength work also has a crossover with power/speed work as motor units (which control muscle fibres) learn to fire at faster rates.

  • On top of this, muscles, tendons, ligaments and even bones develop and become more resilient tissues, potentially reducing injury risk.

  • Maximal strength is a key part of a boxers athletic development.

Fighters are better for being stronger
Athletes are better for being stronger
Humans are better for being stronger

All else being equal, Strong is Never Wrong!
